On the women’s side,  defending champion Line Bellerose was ousted in the semis by Mary Hall, a very tenacious tennis and squash player from Toronto.   Hall was to face World Tour winner Marie-Hélène Bédard in the final.   Marie won both table tennis and badminton with squash going to Mary, no surprise there.   M-H needed 13 points in tennis for the win but against Mary Hall 13 points can be a big mountain to climb.   Marie-Hélène’s meticulous play kept her close to Mary in the score, her goal was achieved at 13-14.   It’s now two tournaments in a row for Marie-Hélène, is there a woman somewhere in Canada who can challenge her?   Are the Victoria women ready to take their racket out of their closet to challenge MArie-Hélène???

Many thanks to Steve Mikovich and Black knight for this tournament.   We were please to see many new faces like Phil Gaumont, Quebec’s top badminton player and Dominic Laflamme ex NCAA tennis player.

Saturday evening team-pool tournament winners are Dany Lessard and Line Bellerose.  Ok Dany, your pool skills qualify you for the Canadian team…

On the women’s side, Bédard defeated her arch rival Line Bellerose with a stunning +22 winning table tennis, squash and tennis quite easily.

3500$ were given in prize money.

Chez les dames,  Marie-Hélène Bédard y est allé d’une performance époustouflante afin de disposer de son éternelle rivale, Line Bellerose.   Marie a remporté facilement le tennis de table, le tennis ainsi que le squash  pour  mériter la victoire.   Hélène Dubé de Québec termine troisième.

Did you know that the 2010 World Championships for National Teams will be held in Neudorf at about 20 km from Vienna in Austria?  The competition will be from September 3 to September 5.  Last year it was the first time that Canada had a team at the World Championships.  Our friends from overseas expect to see us again this year and we will be there.  Our Federation will support the team by reimbursing the entries and a sponsor will provide the Team Canada track suits.  A team is made of a minimum of two men and one woman.  This year we can also have a team for players above 45 years old.  The selection for the team players will be done at the end of August after the Ottawa tournament.  The results from Victoria, Granby and Ottawa will be taken into account. But first let’s meet at the Granby tournament from June 18 to 20.  This is an international event; a ‘World Super Tour’ and good performances there will help your Canadian and International rankings and will help for your selection.   And if you are not at that competitive level, please come to Granby anyway.  We need to show our interest in our sport and attract more players.  The 2009 world champion Christoph Krenn from Austria (tallest guy on the picture) will be here and it should be an exciting competition.  Let’s travel to Granby.

Saviez-vous que les championnats du monde 2010 des Équipes nationales de Racketlon aura lieu à Neudorf à environ 20 km de Viennes en Autriche?  Cette compétition se tiendra du 3 au 5 septembre.  L’an dernier, c’était la première fois que le Canada avait une équipe aux championnats du monde.  Nos amis d’outre mer espèrent qu’on y sera encore cette année et oui nous y serons.  Notre fédération canadienne de racketlon va aider l’équipe en payant les frais d’inscription et un commanditaire fournira les survêtements de l’équipe.  Une équipe est composée d’au moins deux hommes et une femme.  Cette année nous pouvons aussi avoir une équipe pour les joueurs de 45 ans et plus.  La sélection des joueurs aura lieu à la fin août après le tournoi d’Ottawa. Les résultats de Victoria, Granby et Ottawa seront considérés).  Mais d’abord rencontrons nous à Granby du 18 au 20 juin.  C’est un tournoi international (World Super Tour’) et une bonne performance à ce tournoi aidera à hausser votre classement canadien et international, pouvant vous aider à être sélectionné.  Et si vous n’êtes pas à ce niveau de compétition, SVP venez quand même à Granby.  On doit montrer notre intérêt en notre sport et ainsi attirer plus de joueurs.  Le champion du monde 2009, Christoph Krenn d’Autriche (le plus grand sur la photo) viendra à Granby et ça devrait être une compétition excitante.  On se verra à Granby.

Newcomer Mathieu Thibodeau made quite an impression in the B division, this NCAA tennis player is now ready to tackle the Elite, many fear this player who has good squash to help his incredible tennis.

The “C” division was contested by the best two female players in Quebec, Line Bellerose winning the close battle against her tennis partner, Marie-Hélène Bédard.

Time has come to enter the World Tour event in Granby, A, B and C , junior , senior and women division will be contested.

Patrick Laplante poursuivra son apprentissage en Europe alors qu’il assistera aux Internationaux de tennis de Rolland-Garros avant de bifurquer vers la Belgique où il participera à une compétition internationale de Racketlon.  On lui souhaite bonne chance.

Dans le “B”  ,le nouveau venu Mathieu Thibodeau, un joueur de tennis de la NCAA, s’est facilement imposé tandis que dans le “C” ce fut une finale toute féminine avec Line Bellereose qui a défait Marie-Hélène Bédard grâce a une victoire serrée au tennis.

Maintenant c’est l’heure de s’inscrire à Granby pour le tournoi international, il y a du A, du B et du C.

Le dernier événement avant la compétition Internationale Granby sera le tournoi de simple et double du Carrefour Multisports à Laval le 16 mai.   Verrons-nous l’émergence de Patrick Laplante?  Quelqu’un parviendra-t-il à défaire la quasi invincible équipe Easterbrook-Bédard en double?  Venez le constater par vous-même.
